The scale below has been devised to relate the 'hotness' of spices. The spices in our 'featured spice' section are given a value on this arbitrary scale to illustrate the relative hotness of each. Generally, most spices fall in the middle with only the hottest of Mexican chillies scoring 9 or 10
- 10 - Volcanic
. 9 - Incendiary
. 8 - Fiery
. 7 - Burning
. 6 - Hot
. 5 - picquant
. 4 - Warm
. 3 - Medium
. 2 - Mild
. 1 - Delicate
. 0 - Neutral
